Where You Are
You know something needs to shift, but you cannot name it yet. You sense there’s more for you, but the path isn’t clear. You might be succeeding by every external measure while feeling internally restless. Or you might be genuinely stuck, unclear about what you want or how to move forward.
This stage shows up when you’re at a threshold. Maybe you’re sensing your current role has reached its ceiling. Maybe you’re noticing patterns in how you lead that no longer serve you. Maybe you’ve been meeting others’ expectations for so long that you’ve lost sight of your own direction.
You’re not lost. You’re in the process of discovery. But you cannot see clearly enough yet to make your next move.
What You’re Experiencing
Ambiguity is the defining feature of this stage. You ask yourself questions you cannot answer: What do I actually want? What’s the real problem here? Is this about the job, the organization, or me? Should I stay or go? Build or pivot?
You might feel frustration that you cannot articulate the problem. People ask you what’s wrong and you say “I don’t know” because you genuinely don’t. You can list what’s not working, but you cannot yet see what would work instead.
You’re processing. You’re sensing. You’re gathering information even if you don’t know what you’re gathering it for. This stage can feel passive, but it’s not. Clarity is being built underneath the surface.
What You Need Next
You need space to explore without pressure to decide. You need someone who can ask questions that help you see patterns you cannot see alone. You need language for things you’ve always sensed but never named.
This isn’t the stage for action plans and execution roadmaps. Those come later. Right now, you need the Leadership Edge Diagnostic and structured exploration to understand where you are and what’s shaping your current experience. You need to identify your leadership edge, that unique combination of strengths and perspective that makes you effective. You need to see the patterns that have been limiting you.
The Crossing program is often the best fit for this stage. It gives you three months of focused clarity work so you can move from “I know there’s more” to “I know exactly what’s next.” The right path depends on your specific situation and what you’re ready for.
You’re Ready to Move Forward When
You can name what you want. Not perfectly, not with every detail worked out, but you have language for the direction. You understand what’s been holding you back. You see the gap between where you are and where you could be. You’re ready to stop exploring and start strategizing.
